Mandatory Green Dot Workshop

All incoming undergraduate students are required to complete a Green Dot workshop. This introductory workshop is intended to help students recognize and respond to situations that could be at high risk for violence. This is separate from the Safety on Campus workshop completed during Alive! orientation. If you do not complete this workshop, you will not be able to register for the following semester classes.

What is Green Dot?

Green Dot is a violence prevention program that focuses on making our campus safer by empowering bystanders to become active members in reducing power-based personal violence (for example: sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking). It’s important for every student to know what to do when they see or find themselves in a risky or potentially violent situation.
Rather than the potential victim, it is often the friends and fellow students who notice the situation and are in the best position to intervene. Intervening may be challenging, but the best thing students can do is to know how these types of violence take place and be prepared with options for intervention.
We haven’t yet met a student who regretted being prepared. We do, however, often meet students who say, “I wish I would have done something.”

Who is required to attend?

Required to attend:
  • All incoming first-year undergraduate students
  • All incoming undergraduate transfer students

This includes:

  • Students who live in a residence hall
  • Students who live in a Greek residence
  • International students
  • Students who have an exception to the first-year live-in rule

Not required to attend:

  • WSU students who do not attend the Pullman campus
  • Incoming part-time, non-degree seeking or post-baccalaureate students

If you do not fit the above requirements to attend and are still receiving notices, please send an email to

When are Green Dot workshops offered in Week of Welcome 2016?

Green Dot workshops will be offered during Week of Welcome for:

  • Formal sorority and fraternity recruitment students: Incoming students attending Formal Sorority and Fraternity Recruitment will be pre-assigned a workshop on Sunday, August 14, 2016. You will attend your assigned workshop with your recruitment group.

  • Residence hall students: Incoming students living in the residence halls will be pre-assigned a workshop on Saturday, August 20, 2016. You will receive the time and location of your workshop in your welcome packet from Residence Life.

  • Off-campus students: Incoming students living off campus (transfer students and/or exempt from live-on requirement) will need to sign up on CougSync to attend a Green Dot workshop on Saturday, August 20, 2016.

If you are unable to attend on the date indicated, you will need to sign up for a make-up workshop after classes begin.

Will I be contacted if I still need to attend a Green Dot workshop?

Yes. Emails will be sent to your official WSU email address on a periodic basis throughout the semester to remind you that you need to attend. If you do not attend a make-up workshop, a registration hold will be placed on your account and you will be unable to register for classes until you attend a make-up workshop.

How do I sign up for a make-up workshop?

You can sign up on CougSync for a Green Dot make-up workshop.
All Green Dot make-up workshops will be held in Violence Prevention Programs’ office in room G40 of the Washington building.
To access our office, please enter the ground floor off the parking lot on the corner of Stadium Way and Nevada Street. You will need to use the entrance marked “Programs & Outreach” on this HWS building map, not the medical clinic entrance.

I have a Green Dot hold on my student account. How do I get the hold lifted?

A registration hold was placed on your account because our records indicate that you have not attended your required Green Dot workshop. You will be unable to register for classes until the hold is lifted. If you have a Green Dot hold, the only way to remove it is to attend a Green Dot make-up workshop.
How soon will my hold be lifted?
After you attend a make-up workshop, it may take up to two business days to have the hold removed from your student account. If the hold remains on your student account past this timeframe, please email
(Note: Responses to emailed inquiries regarding your hold may only be sent to your official WSU email account per WSU’s email policy.)
Can I have my hold temporarily lifted?
Holds cannot be temporarily lifted. The only way to have a hold removed from your account is to attend a make-up workshop.

I have a Green Dot hold, but I already attended a workshop during Alive! orientation. What do I do?

Green Dot is a separate mandatory workshop for all incoming students.
