Learn About Billing & Insurance

Billing

PLEASE NOTE – Health and Wellness Services has two billing/payment systems; one for the Clinic and one for the Pharmacy.

Clinic Billing/Payment

We accept and bill most major insurance plans. Please present your insurance card at each visit to ensure accurate billing for services.

What if I don’t have an insurance card?
Call your insurance company, they can send you a card. If you don’t have a card to present at the time of visit, you may be asked to pay the full amount at the time of service or it will be billed to your student account. Back to top

Who is responsible for payment?
If you are 18 or over, you are legally responsible for your own account, regardless of who you live with, who claims you as a tax deduction or who has the contract with the insurance company. If the patient is under 18, parents OR the legal guardians are responsible for payment.

You are fully responsible for knowing the specifics of your particular insurance coverage. Examples of these specifics include: co-pays, deductibles, second opinions, pre-authorizations, preferred providers, referrals, covered and non-covered services and preferred hospitals and facilities.

Our office has been instructed to request pre-authorization from your insurance company for your hospital and or surgical visits. Please note that this does not guarantee payment. Payment is made according to your contract. The clinic cannot accept responsibility for collecting your reimbursement or negotiating a settlement on a disputed claim. We can provide you with the necessary medical information to assist you. Back to top

When is payment expected?
After we bill your insurance company and payment is received from them, we will bill any amount determined to be patient responsibility to your student account. Back to top

What do "contracted" and "allowable" mean?
A contracted insurance means that we have agreed to the particular insurance company's fee schedule for payment of services. Allowable is just another term used for this. Although we accept the Insurance allowable, there is usually a portion, percentage, deductible or co-pay that the patient is still responsible for.            Back to top

If you have concerns with your ability to pay for charges, please contact HWS Billing & Insurance at 509-335-3575 or see our financial assistance program. WSU also offers a reasonably priced insurance plan. Back to top

What charges will go to my student account?
Any balance on your account unpaid by insurance will be sent to your Student Account. For your confidentiality, all charges will appear on your WSU Student Account as a “Student Health Center” charge. Back to top
